Please note that the YCA Calendar and The YCA Junior Calendar (which can be accessed from the YCA Junior Section page) have been updated. They are not complete ie. The A. G. Sunderland fixtures have not yet been published. Please let me know of any errors or omissions or if you want an event added to it.

Barnsley Chess Club has a new web site up and running. The web site can now be found in the Chess Club section on the Links page and can also be seen here.
--------------------
Enzo Ciaffarafa has been working on a new Bradford and District Chess Association web site with the intention of taking over as web site editor from Ihor Lewyk. I think this has now taken place and as well as replacing the old link on the Links page with the new one you can view the new BDCA web site here. Yorkshire members will find an entry form on the site for the very near Bradford Chess Congress 2008, whilst Bradford members will find useful information for the upcoming season.

Leeds Junior Chess Association
The following report and photos have been kindly sent in by John Hipshon:
Summer School Hits the Mark
The Leeds Junior Chess Association Summer School proved to be a hit again for the 20 youngsters who took part this year. It provided three days of intensive training and competition. With top coaching from Nick Nixon in the morning sessions and competition in the afternoon it was a very full three days. The theme this year was middle games and youngsters watched examples of games and then worked on positions in pairs in three morning sessions. In the afternoon they played four games contributing to a twelve round swiss tournament. The competition was extremely tough, reflecting the quality of players taking part and there were some fantastic games. With repairing allowed in the 12 round tournament, James Roberts and Kiruthika Rajeswaran fought out two epic matches, both ending in draws. However, the best game prize went to Sean Mcdonald and Amanda Hipshon for their bruising encounter. As Nick put it, ‘Amanda threw the kitchen sink at Sean who defended grittily before breaking through to take the game.’
Overall it was James Roberts who triumphed this year with a fantastic 10/12. Kiruthika came second with 9 and Sean and Amanda scored 8.
Awards were given as follows:
1st James Roberts
2nd Kiruthika Rajeswaran
3rd Sean McDonald
4th Amanda Hipshon
Under 11: Amol vani
Under 9: Adarsh Vani
Best grading performance above their grade: Abigail Arnold
Merit prize in relation to age: Jabari Carr

Mithun Chakravorty of Sheffield University and Leo Keely of Huddersfield also came in equal 3rd place with 3.5 points each. On board 27 we have a repeat of the top board showdown of last season’s Woodhouse Cup match between Wakefield A and York RI A. Yes Paul Townsend of York RI A and Peter Shaw of Wakefield A have been paired together for this afternoon’s game. This time though the colours are reversed with Peter taking the White pieces.
